What first piqued your interest in working at The Trade Desk?
First off, I was interested in a company that had a good reputation and a good product. The Trade Desk had both. I really liked that The Trade Desk was committed to transparency be-cause I find that a lot of companies in ad tech are more interested in taking a position on me-dia. The Trade Desk is about making sure that there's transparency within the marketplace to find the right price for buying media. Not to get too technical, but that was important to me.
What was your first impression of the people here?
Everyone throughout my interview process was really, really nice to me. That probably influ-enced me more than most things because, when you're looking to start a new job, you're thinking about who you're going to be working with everyday. Everybody was friendly and had a good attitude, so that drew me to the company.
And when you got here?
The people definitely met expectations in terms of friendliness and in terms of just having a healthy perspective on work-life balance. The people at The Trade Desk work hard and are committed to producing quality work. As long as you're performing and meeting your goals, that's really what is most important to the company.
You can have a good work-life balance here. Some of the fun stuff we do outside of the office are our TTD sports teams. We have a Trade Desk soccer team that we started a few months ago, and that's been really fun. The company also arranges happy hours and other team building events to make sure that as we grow the company, everyone still knows each other personally. It's just a good way to make sure that everyone's talking to each other both inside and outside of the work context.
What's most surprised you about your job?
One thing that's surprised me is the broad spectrum of mediums that The Trade Desk works within. We're omnichannel and when I applied for this job, I knew mostly about the display business. Since working here, we've seen tons of growth in other channels like video, mobile, advanced TV, app and we recently introduced native. It has been cool to see us buy in these additional areas.
In my job, because I work on inventory partnerships, it means that I get to engage in a lot of different types of advertising and different ways that agencies choose to advertise.
What’s your pro-tip to being successful at The Trade Desk?
Talk to as many people as you can in your first month or two. I think people at this company really value folks who have a wide breadth of knowledge on the industry and our technology. I think starting up conversations with people in the office is a good way to expedite the training process, and will help you learn as much as you possibly can.
